We use a variety of computational and experimental tools including:

• Affymetrix microarray system for gene expression profiling
E. coli and yeast complete gene deletion libraries
• Optical, confocal, electron and atomic force microscopy
• New Brunswick feedback-controlled bioreactors
• Unique combinatorial chemical libraries for screening
• Thermocyclers, pipetting robots, plate readers & other rDNA tools
• 236+ node, 64 bit, Opteron computing cluster
• Software packages including Matlab, R, S-Plus, C++, Perl, & MySQL

Affymetrix instrumentation system
Pictured here are the fluidics and scanner units used to process Affymetrix GeneChip microarrays. Each microarray is used to measure the expression of all genes in a microbe in a single growth condition. We perform hundreds of such assays each year for our regulatory and metabolic network mapping projects.
